Time Passion Space Desire
In 1991, RobRoy began a long artistic journey revolving around the human form. Drawing life is a sensory experience for RobRoy, as he hunts down and captures the look, smell, feel, and taste of what makes us human. The drawings fuel other studio work, including Intaglio prints, paintings, sculpture, and performance.
His works are representational: places that potentially exist, often emerging from dreams, imagination, and visions. Organic shapes in RobRoy’s pieces evoke passion, sensuality, and sexuality. RobRoy aims to create responses for the viewers that may cause them to feel excited, uncomfortable, and intrigued with lasting thoughts and sensations.
Passion pulses through his process from the first spark of vision, to pressing the brush to canvas, and in hanging finished canvases for others to see. A significant life project of his is the Sporozoan Project. It is a five chapter story: Sporozoan Cavities, Sporozoan Swarm, Sporozoan Habitats, Sporozoan Shine, and Sporozoan Trophies. Each Chapter is a story on RobRoys’ relationship with art, and how it relates to the world. Chapters appeal to viewers in different ways; born from the Intaglio print, a passion for copper, the smell of intaglio ink, pressure created by the printing press on damp paper rings of desire. Interacting with this work will leave a lasting mark in the viewers minds and bodies.
